Happy Administrator’s Week to Rachel Jennings, the new Executive Director at Christian Assisted Living of Johnson City. Although Rachel only recently took over the leadership role, she has been in the long term care industry for several years. While raising her family and working full-time, Rachel completed her Master’s Degree in Public Health and earned her Assisted Living Administrator’s License. While working with the current company in another role at Abundant Christian Living Community, she has been looking forward to her opportunity to serve at CALofJC.
Rachel has previously served as a Patient Liaison and Assistant Administrator in other facilities and feels she is now ready to share her skills and love for the residents and staff at CALofJC. Rachel is a native of Elizabethton, TN and continues to live in that community with her family. She is married to Andy and has two sons, Tyler and Garrett.
When asked why she decided to become an Assisted Living Administrator, Rachel stated: "I have a love and compassion for the elder generation, and I love seeing the smile on their faces every day. Getting up and coming to work is not just a job when you have a wonderful team and staff that make your day-to-day operation easy."
Rachel has proven herself to be a Servant Leader and the staff and residents hope she has had a great Administrator’s Week at CALofJC. If you haven’t had the opportunity to meet Rachel yet, please stop by and welcome her to the community.
Home is where someone runs to greet you. And that someone can be your little furball. You and your pet can have a home here at Christian Assisted Living of Johnson City. We are a pet friendly facility and we don’t want you to have to say, “If I can't bring my dog, I’m not going”.
“Happiness is to hold flowers in both hands." And that’s exactly what happened here at Christian Assisted Living today. Nothing but smiles as the resident planted their own flowers. We are definitely ready for spring weather. A big Thank You to Tim Stone, owner of Rustic Ridge, for providing the beautiful plants and soil.
Christian Assisted Living of Johnson City was represented at the Johnson City Chamber of Commerce Breakfast yesterday at Abundant Christian Living Community.
February is Great American Pie Month. And what better way to celebrate this day than with apple pies, hand made by our very own COO. The residents had a lot of fun and enjoyed this delicious delight.
For the time you took your oath. For the time you responded to our needs. For your service. For our security. For your bravery. For our peace. For our protection. For your courage. For your sacrifice. For the times you left your family. For the times you risked it all. Thank You!
Monday the 9th was National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day. Christian Assisted Living wanted to thank the Johnson City Police Department and the Washington County Sheriffs office for their service to our community. We hope they all enjoyed the delicious cookie cakes provided to them
Blessed are the Peacemakers, for they shall be called the children of God – Matthew 5:9
Music and singing are in the air this New Year!
Residents in both the Memory Care Unit and Assisted Living had a wonderful time today singing and moving along with old favorite melodies. No matter the stage of life, music and singing have a way of opening the mind and are very therapeutic in helping Residents in all phases of dementia. We hope you enjoy the below videos as much as the family members of residents did. Thank you to the families for sharing how special the videos were to you:
“Thank you so much for sending these videos. My wife and I love them! Mom sang in the choir for years. It’s amazing that she still remembers the words.” (TS)
“Thank you! That’s awesome. She looks so happy. She looks so much better since she’s come there also. We are so thankful and appreciative for everything that you guys have done for her. This is the happiest we have seen her in a very long time.” (FB)
“Oh Kim, that is wonderful. Jeanne loves hymns and certainly loves the songs from her high school days in the 60’s. She and our brother Garry danced together, and they put on a show each time. Thank you, thank you, thank you for sharing these videos with me. Love you for this.” (JD)
The staff recently had a Pumpkin Decorating Contest and the residents voted on their favorite one. Our housekeeping manager, Connie Trivett, won for the 2nd straight year. We would like to give a huge thank you to Caris for providing our winner bucket.
The residents also got to do some of their own pumpkin painting. We enjoyed seeing all the different pumpkins!
Christian Assisted Living of Johnson City finished off Assisted Living Week with a “Bang”!
Wednesday, we celebrated with 80’s day. The staff enjoyed Chic-fil-a Sandwiches provided by Amedysis. The residents enjoyed ice cream and music provided by Patti Quarles.
Thursday was Western Day and it was a big hit. Kevin Helms, owner of Backdraft BBQ Truck donated BBQ for all residents and staff. Everyone enjoyed eating outside in the beautiful sunshine. The day ending with a shootout between residents and staff. Residents had a lot of fun getting the staff wet with squirt guns.
Friday was Sports Day, and there’s no better way to end the week than with a “tailgate” cookout. Staff and residents enjoyed another beautiful day outside for a cookout but this time in our beautiful courtyard. Avalon Hospice provided chips, cookies, watermelon and cantaloupe for the tailgate day. To end the day, residents had 2-hour BINGO and enjoyed getting to pick through all the fun baskets as a bingo prize.
Assisted Living Week was a huge success and Christian Assisted Living of Johnson City would like to thank everyone who helped and donated to make this week so successful.

Staff enjoyed food from Petros provided by Steve and Ashley Grindstaff.
Please welcome Kim Meadows our new Director of Marketing/Admissions!
"I have been in health care for almost 11 years as I started out as a CNA in nursing homes and was eventually promoted to an Activity Director. For the past 4 years, I was able to provide laughs, fun and lots of memories for many different residents in nursing homes, assisted living and memory care.
I am excited about this new role in my career - to be the first person to build a relationship and trust with the family and residents, to be able to go out in the community and meet all different types of people and help make the health care field run on a day-to-day basis.
I was raised in Elizabethton and have been married for fourteen wonderful years with two amazing children. When I am not working, I enjoy watching my son play baseball for the high school and showcase ball and my daughter perform with the Colorguard in the high school band. I enjoy camping and traveling with my family and friends. My favorite baseball team is the Atlanta Braves."
“Fall is proof that change is Beautiful.”
Here at CALofJC, we are gearing up for Fall weather. We love Fall weather and colors because after all, Fall is sweater weather, crunchy leaves and pumpkin spice everything!

Carrie Debord transferred to Abundant Christian Living Community Rehabilitation Center from her home at Christian Assisted Living of Johnson City due to experiencing increased difficulty in ambulation and pain. Mrs. Debord wanted to remain in her home at CAL, but recognized that she needed some intense inpatient therapy to regain her strength and work on measures to better control her pain.
She was very motivated in reaching her goal of returning home to CAL and made significant progress not only with her ambulation and pain control, but with safety awareness. During her time at ACLC Rehab, she also formed new friendships and enjoyed daily activities. She looks forward to eating daily and enjoying walks with her friend, Nell. Mrs. Debord stated, “Therapy has been good for my body, mind, and soul. I love it!”
Abundant Christian Living Community Rehabilitation Center and Christian Assisted Living of Johnson City are proud of the progress you have made and seeing you return to your home at CAL.
(Mrs. Debord is proud to accept her certificate of Achievement presented by therapist, Sarah Hall. Mrs. Debords friend, Nell Bowen happily supports her is her success.)
Happy Long Term Care Administrator’s Week!
