Exciting Announcement: In-House Therapy Services
We are excited to announce our building now has in-house therapy services. Our Rehab Team will be providing Physical, Occupational, and Speech Therapy for our residents. With that announcement, we would like to introduce the lead therapist of the Rehab Team, Suzanne Merritt, Occupational Therapy Assistant.
Suzanne has been making a difference in the lives of her patients for the last 13 years. Occupational Therapy is a second career for her, and she stated, “Thirteen years ago I found my passion in my career. I enjoy having the opportunity to improve the quality of life for our residents, and I love to see and experience their joy when helping them achieve their goals.” Suzanne is originally from North Carolina and has worked in multiple settings including Independent Living, Assisted Living, Skilled Nursing, Memory Care and Home Health. She transplanted to our area five years ago and has fallen in love with the beauty of the mountains.
In her free time, she and her husband find themselves traveling to North Carolina and upstate New York visiting with her mother, their children, and grandchildren. They have invested in a little cottage on the Chaumont River and have been busy remodeling it. Suzanne is passionate about Occupational Therapy and stated, “We are so excited to be here in Christian Assisted Living of Johnson City! We look forward to providing therapy services for our residents with the many benefits of being in-house.”
Welcome to Christian Assisted Living of Johnson City Suzanne! We are so happy to have you on our staff and thankful for the difference you and the Rehab Team will be making for our residents.
Join us on Wednesday, December 6, 9am - 5pm, for our OPEN HOUSE! We will be celebrating our new Memory Care Unit. The Ribbon Cutting Ceremony will be at 9am with the Elizabethton and Johnson City Chamber of Commerce represented. There will also be finger foods, plenty of vendors and tours.

Christian Assisted Living of Johnson City had lots of fun supporting the Hilltoppers by handing out stadium seat cushions at their recent home game.
Residents and Staff indulged in some ooey, gooey goodness in celebration of National S'more’s Day. Special thanks to the Dietary Department for providing these delicious treats.
Residents at Christian Assisted Living Memory Care celebrated National Ice Cream Day with ice cream sundaes while enjoying the nice summer day in their beautiful courtyard. Other residents chose to enjoy their sundaes indoors, but everyone had a great day of fun and fellowship.
Kim Meadows, Director of Marketing for CALofJC and Kayla Baker, Marketing Director of CALofJC's sister facility Abundant Christian Living Community, appeared on WJHL's Daytime Tri-Cities this morning.
Christian Assisted Living of Johnson City is proud of their dedicated nurses who share their love and care with the residents and co-workers each day. This particular group of nurses were all hands- on deck during the COVID-19 crisis and never blinked at showing up to ensure the residents had the care they needed.
Thanks to Caris Hospice, Amedysis Home Health, Gentiva Hospice and Director of Nursing, Amie Markland for making their week special. Happy National Nurse’s Week team and thank you for all you have done and continue to do.

Happy Administrator’s Week to Rachel Jennings, the new Executive Director at Christian Assisted Living of Johnson City. Although Rachel only recently took over the leadership role, she has been in the long term care industry for several years. While raising her family and working full-time, Rachel completed her Master’s Degree in Public Health and earned her Assisted Living Administrator’s License. While working with the current company in another role at Abundant Christian Living Community, she has been looking forward to her opportunity to serve at CALofJC.
Rachel has previously served as a Patient Liaison and Assistant Administrator in other facilities and feels she is now ready to share her skills and love for the residents and staff at CALofJC. Rachel is a native of Elizabethton, TN and continues to live in that community with her family. She is married to Andy and has two sons, Tyler and Garrett.
When asked why she decided to become an Assisted Living Administrator, Rachel stated: "I have a love and compassion for the elder generation, and I love seeing the smile on their faces every day. Getting up and coming to work is not just a job when you have a wonderful team and staff that make your day-to-day operation easy."
Rachel has proven herself to be a Servant Leader and the staff and residents hope she has had a great Administrator’s Week at CALofJC. If you haven’t had the opportunity to meet Rachel yet, please stop by and welcome her to the community.
Home is where someone runs to greet you. And that someone can be your little furball. You and your pet can have a home here at Christian Assisted Living of Johnson City. We are a pet friendly facility and we don’t want you to have to say, “If I can't bring my dog, I’m not going”.
“Happiness is to hold flowers in both hands." And that’s exactly what happened here at Christian Assisted Living today. Nothing but smiles as the resident planted their own flowers. We are definitely ready for spring weather. A big Thank You to Tim Stone, owner of Rustic Ridge, for providing the beautiful plants and soil.
Christian Assisted Living of Johnson City was represented at the Johnson City Chamber of Commerce Breakfast yesterday at Abundant Christian Living Community.
February is Great American Pie Month. And what better way to celebrate this day than with apple pies, hand made by our very own COO. The residents had a lot of fun and enjoyed this delicious delight.
For the time you took your oath. For the time you responded to our needs. For your service. For our security. For your bravery. For our peace. For our protection. For your courage. For your sacrifice. For the times you left your family. For the times you risked it all. Thank You!
Monday the 9th was National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day. Christian Assisted Living wanted to thank the Johnson City Police Department and the Washington County Sheriffs office for their service to our community. We hope they all enjoyed the delicious cookie cakes provided to them
Blessed are the Peacemakers, for they shall be called the children of God – Matthew 5:9
Music and singing are in the air this New Year!
Residents in both the Memory Care Unit and Assisted Living had a wonderful time today singing and moving along with old favorite melodies. No matter the stage of life, music and singing have a way of opening the mind and are very therapeutic in helping Residents in all phases of dementia. We hope you enjoy the below videos as much as the family members of residents did. Thank you to the families for sharing how special the videos were to you:
“Thank you so much for sending these videos. My wife and I love them! Mom sang in the choir for years. It’s amazing that she still remembers the words.” (TS)
“Thank you! That’s awesome. She looks so happy. She looks so much better since she’s come there also. We are so thankful and appreciative for everything that you guys have done for her. This is the happiest we have seen her in a very long time.” (FB)
“Oh Kim, that is wonderful. Jeanne loves hymns and certainly loves the songs from her high school days in the 60’s. She and our brother Garry danced together, and they put on a show each time. Thank you, thank you, thank you for sharing these videos with me. Love you for this.” (JD)
